President Cyril Ramaphosa has unveiled a diverse and intergenerational leadership team to spearhead South Africa’s upcoming National Dialogue, appointing academic, political, and scientific minds to shape the nation’s future.
Heading the initiative are Prof Tinyiko Maluleke, Vice-Chancellor of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), and Roelf Meyer, a former politician known for his role in South Africa’s transition to democracy. Together, they will serve as co-chairs of the Dialogue, leading a 31-member Eminent Persons Group tasked with guiding critical national conversations.
Supporting them are former Member of Parliament Lindiwe Mazibuko and renowned scientist and entrepreneur Siyabulela Xuza, who have been named deputy chairs. The group’s secretary, Nompendulo Mkhatshwa, brings activism and public service experience from her current role in the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.
According to the Presidency, the team will play a key role in coordinating and driving the objectives of the Dialogue, which aims to address deep-rooted societal challenges and foster social cohesion.
President Ramaphosa thanked the appointees, saying their expertise and commitment will be instrumental in ensuring the effectiveness and impact of the national initiative.
